Mason Reed Mutschelknaus

July 11, 1989 — April 29, 2012

Mason Reed Mutschelknaus, 22, of New Philadelphia died Sunday, April 29, 2012, from a tragic motorcycle accident.

A son of Douglas and Yvonne Mutschelknaus and a brother to Erika, Mason was born July 11, 1989 in Union Hospital at Dover.

Mason graduated from Garaway High School in 2008. He was an avid runner, greatly enjoying participating on the school’s track and cross country teams. During his junior and senior years of high school, he was also enrolled in post-secondary classes at Kent State Tuscarawas where he was a student ambassador.

Mason then enrolled at the University of Akron studying mechanical engineering technology. He was honored as an Emerging Leader for the school’s honors college his freshman year. He also served as a resident assistant for two years, providing leadership and support to incoming and current students.

For the past year, Mason worked part-time at Allied Machine and Engineering in Dover as a manufacturing engineer.

Mason’s free time was spent with his family and friends. He loved to talk and laugh about his elaborate plans for his future. Other conversations centered around cars, sports, and movies. He loved life, no matter who he was with or what situation was at hand. He had a great deal of zest and passion which was felt by everyone who knew him.

A truly wonderful person, Mason will be greatly missed by his parents, Douglas and Yvonne (Mills) Mutschelknaus of New Philadelphia; his sister, Erika A. (fiancé, Steven Swinderman) Mutschelknaus of New Philadelphia; his maternal grandmother, Juanita M. Mills of New Philadelphia; his maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Elliott of Dover; his paternal grandparents, Tim and Nancy Mutschelknaus of Baltic; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Mills, on December 27, 2011.

Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Shelly Nordine will officiate Mason’s service on Thursday at 10:30 in the Dover funeral center with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Baltic.
