Marybelle Pake

Marybelle Pake, age 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 16, 2024, after a period of declining health.

Born in Dover on February 1, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel (Pongrat) Carruthers.

Marybelle graduated from New Philadelphia High School in the class of 1947. After graduation she was employed at the former Joy Manufacturing, Ohio Industrial Supply, and Tuscarawas Savings and Loan.

She was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers. Marybelle also enjoyed watching old movies on TNT and listening to swing music of the 1940’s and 1950’s. She also loved listening to gospel music, especially the Gaither’s and Statler Brothers. But her greatest joy in life was being a loving mother, grandmother, and caregiver to her loving husband Sam, who passed away on November 2, 2015. Marybelle and Sam enjoyed 67 years of marriage.

Marybelle’s faith was nurtured at Faith Christian Church in New Philadelphia. When she was able Marybelle served as a deaconess and could often be found serving in some area of the church.

She is survived by her son, Samuel A. (Lisa) Pake of Dover; her grandchildren, Samuel L. (Amanda) Pake, Stacey N. Pake, and Scott J. (Kasadie) Pake; great-grandchildren, Lincoln Michael Pake, Charlotte Grace Pake, Vivian Jane Pake, Crew Thomas Pake, and Ella Elise Pake; her brother, Thomas (Janice) Carruthers; her best friend, Jo West; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Steven Michael Pake.

The family will greet guests on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Brian Flood will lead a service celebrating Marybelle’s life beginning at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will follow the service in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Friends are also invited back to Faith Christian Church where her church family will host a reception in Marybelle’s honor.
