Mary Yarnell

Mary Jane Yarnell, 89, of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Ward and Bessie (Selway) Woodworth, Mary was born October 31, 1929 in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Mary graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1947. She then continued her education at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, graduating in 1951.

Mary began a long career as a real estate agent when her sons were in high school, first with Mishler Realty followed by the Barnett Realtors. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia as well as the College Club of Tuscarawas County and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mary’s greatest passion in life was her family and was especially fond of family activities. She enjoyed traveling the western United States and many trips to Hawaii with her late husband, Leon “Scorp” Yarnell. In her spare time, Mary could often be found studying genealogy and taking photographs.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Paula Yarnell of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Moore; a dear friend, Judy Riggle and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon, whom she married on June 1, 1952; her son, Steven Yarnell and a sister, Margaret Gibson.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Mary’s life will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the service a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.

The family would like to thank the staff of New Dawn Retirement Community for the wonderful care given to Mary as well as for their compassion toward the family over the years.
