Mary Virginia Phillips, 86, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, August 12, 2006 in Union Hospital at Dover.A daughter of the late William and Virginia (Bell) Buffington, Mary was born July 19, 1920 in Uhrichsville, Ohio.She was a 1938 graduate of Uhrichsville High School and also attended Kent State University. She was a former employee of Daniels Clothing Store and the Delphian Motor Inn. Mary was a member of First United Methodist Church of New Philadelphia where she volunteered her time for many church activities. She was also a volunteer at Union Hospital.Mary was a member of the D.A.R. and she enjoyed playing golf. She enjoyed traveling and along with her husband Delbert, she wintered in Fort Myers, Florida. But most of all, she cherished her family which was the center of her life.She is survived by her loving husband, Delbert Phillips, whom she married on September 1, 1979, four daughters, Sally (James) Clark and Sue E. Spring, both of New Philadelphia, Karon (David) Smetana of North Canton, Ohio and Sharon (Joseph) Lombardo of Coral Gables, Florida; step-children, J. Stephen (Carla) Phillips of Chillicothe, Ohio and Deborah (Robert) Fleming of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Brian (Kelly) Clark, Stacie (Michael) Bollon, Jon Martin, James and Mary Zink, Lara and Margaret Smetana, Joseph, Lauren and Michael Lombardo, Stephanie and Matthew (Nicole) Phillips and Elizabeth Fleming and great-grandchildren; Logan and Jackson Martin, Andres Bollon, Raelee and Jameson Brown and Brendan Phillips.Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Mark A. Martin; three brothers and one sister.Family and friends may call on Monday, August 14, 2006 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory from 6 to 9 p.m. and again on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. A funeral service celebrating Mary’s Life will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia with Rev. Steven Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery.
