Mary Van Sickle

June 26, 1934 — May 22, 2017

After a long, courageous struggle of declining health, Mary Van Sickle, age 82, a lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, died peacefully Monday morning, May 22, 2017, in Park Village Assisted Living surrounded by her daughter, son, and a sister.

Born in Roswell, Ohio on June 26, 1934, Mary was the daughter of Domenic and Melita DiSanto Pallotto.

She attended the former Roswell School and was a 1952 graduate of St. Mary’s in Dennison, Ohio.

She attended Tusco Beauty School and was a hair stylist for more than 30 years spending 15 years as a stylist at the JCPenney salon in New Philadelphia, before her retirement in 2005.

Her love of family kept her going with her favorite tasks of cooking, baking, and cutting and styling hair.

She was an excellent cook and baker and was always happy to make some of her family’s favorites like her banana bread and her fudge.

Mary had a strong faith in God and displayed that in every aspect of her life here on earth and in her journey home to be with her heavenly Father. For many years, her faith was nurtured at Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia where she was a member of the Altar Society.

Mary will be sadly missed by her two children, Kristi (Dave) Schaub of Strasburg and Mark (Chris) Van Sickle of New Philadelphia, her four grandchildren, Steven (Brittany) LaCroix, Tara LaCroix, Corey (Tricia) Van Sickle, and Nikki Van Sickle, and her four great-grandsons, Jaxen, Madex, Xaden, and Bentley LaCroix, her three sisters, Cilta Griffith, Ann Neiger, and Tina (Jim) Mathias, and a brother, Dominic Pallotto and numerous nieces and nephews.  Ex-husband Bob (Paula) Van Sickle complete the family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Bret LaCroix, sister Lucy Wilhelm, brothers-in-law Paul Griffith and Gene Neiger, and niece Lori Neiger.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Park Village Assisted Living in Dover for their wonderful care and compassion and express a grateful acknowledgement to Deacon Lyn Houze of Community Hospice for his special assistance and support of Mary.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 4-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake Service will begin at 6:45 PM.  Fr. Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday in Sacred Heart Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. All are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the Geib Family Center following the services.
