Mary Theresa Simmons

Mary Simmons, 76, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, May 9, 2005, at Union Hospital in Dover.A daughter of the late Thomas and Sophia (Otto) Meechan, Mary was born May 8, 1929 in New Philadelphia, Ohio.Mary was a life long resident of Tuscarawas County. She graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1948.Her passion in life was to spend time with her beloved husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many happy holidays with them preparing meals which they all enjoyed.Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia. As an avid sports fan, she spent many evenings watching the Cleveland Indians while enjoying crocheting.She is survived by her loving husband, Philip R. Simmons, Sr., whom she married April 3, 1948; one daughter, Exe (Dan) Watson of Medina, Ohio; one son, Philip (Diana) Simmons, Jr. of North Lawrence, Ohio; grandchildren, Bryan (Rayna) Finnicum of North Canton, Mark (fiancé Jamie) Finnicum of Raleigh, North Carolina, Keri (Mike) Hamsher of Orrville, Ohio, Lacey (Adam) Handwerk of Orrville, Ohio, Kyle Simmons of North Lawrence, Ohio and Christina Watson of Cuyahoga Falls; great-grandchildren, Connor, Riley, and Regan Finnicum, Shadra, Sierra and Ainsley Hamsher; sisters, Cathrine Fish of California, Pat (Gene) Hobart of New Philadelphia, Shirley (Marty) Vesco of New Philadelphia and Frances Walton of New Philadelphia; and her beloved pet, Chipper.Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mabel May and one brother, Danny Meechan.Visitation will be Thursday, May 12, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 13, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Monsignor George Schlegel officiating. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Tuscarawas.
