Mary Lou (Indermill) Swinderman, 83, of New Philadelphia passed away at her residence on Saturday, October 31, 2020 with her loving family by her side.
She fought a courageous year long battle against pancreatic cancer with grace, strength, and humor; even through the tough times she endured.
Mary was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Nola F. (Coates) Indermill. She is survived by her husband Jim Swinderman, with whom she has shared 17 wonderful years; two daughters Barbara (Rob) Scott of Washington, DC and Sara Ann Scott (significant other, Brad) of New Philadelphia; grandchildren Katie Cookson (fiancé, Zack) and Emily Cookson, beloved sister-in-law Marcia Indermill; as well as stepchildren Mark (Jane) Swinderman, Darla (Jeff) Viola, Mike (Jen) Swinderman and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She is proceeded in death by her first husband of 39 years, Tom Scott of New Philadelphia, and her two brothers, Vernon and Fred Indermill.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, and aunt. She was one of a kind. She loved visits from her grandchildren and attending family gatherings. She enjoyed taking drives in the country and seeing the beauty of the world around her. Even at 83, she would get excited to see the deer in the fields. Mary loved animals, having many pets throughout the years. (She even made friends with a dragon!) She will be missed by Desi & Dora, the heathen cats who woke her up every morning.
She was a passionate sports fan, especially the Cleveland Indians and was known to attend races at Midvale Speedway. In her active years, Mary loved working in the yard, gardening and primping her flowers. Mary would tell stories about growing up across the street from Tuscora Park and how much she loved the beautiful peacocks on the hillside and riding the carousel horses.
Mary’s daily routine included going to The Daily Grind with her husband each morning. They would go together but sit separately at what was affectionately known as the “old men” and “old ladies” tables, playing cards and solving the world’s problems. There they would meet with beloved friends and newcomers alike. No one was a stranger, as Mary and Jim could meet someone and be friends by the time they left. Daily Grind proprietors, Eric & Tammy Dietz, and the staff have always been so kind to them and provided a wonderful atmosphere for meeting old friends and making new. In Mary’s memory, the family will welcome visits from friends, family, and acquaintances at The Daily Grind in New Philadelphia from 8:00AM-11:00AM on Monday, November 9th.
The family would also like to thank the excellent staff and care providers at Hospice for all of their patience & loving care that they provided Mary and her family through their time of need. Memorial contributions in her memory may be directed to either Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or the Tuscarawas County Humane Society in honor of her love for animals, 1432 Tall Timber Rd NE, New Phila.
