Mary Lou Sponseller, age 72 of New Philadelphia, died peacefully Monday afternoon, December 5, 2005, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born at Corning, Iowa, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Louise Chappell Patterson. Mary Lou grew up in the Scio, Ohio region, and graduated high school from there in 1951. She worked at Scio Pottery for many years, and operated a restaurant with her mother during the 1960’s known as Louise’s Restaurant. Mary Lou and her husband, Robert Sponseller married on February 21, 1957 and relocated to New Philadelphia in 1988. Mrs. Sponseller then worked as a housekeeper for Attorney Douglas O’Meara. Even in her spare time, Mary Lou enjoyed cleaning house. She loved to cook for her family, especially her grandchildren and was fond of playing cards with family and friends. She was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Cavaliers and even the New York Yankees. The Sponsellers were members of Hanover United Methodist Church near Scio and former members of the Uhrichsville Moose Lodge.In addition to her husband, her family includes two daughters, Robin (Steve) Walker of Bowerston, and Wendy Sponseller of New Philadelphia, grandchildren Jamie, Justin and Jacob Masters, Leif Walker, and Scott, Stormy and Sky Reynard, great-grandchildren Jett, Micade, Jered, Jordon, Jewel Masters and a deceased infant great-grandson, Jakob Masters. A brother, Larry (Pat) Patterson of Scio completes the family. Cremation will be conducted under the care and direction of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Cremation Service, and the family will host relatives and friends Thursday at their home, 137 Beaver Avenue, NE, New Philadelphia, from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Mary Lou’s nephew, Nick Sponseller will lead services at the residence Thursday afternoon at 1:00 P.M.
