Mary Katherine Hostetler, age 82, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 in Hennis Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Thomas) Pompey, Mary was born at Elizabeth, New Jersey on November 22, 1931.
A graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Mary devoted most of her time to her children, after raising them she was employed by the former Bond’s Shoe Store at New Philadelphia.
Mary enjoyed many hobbies which included traveling with her husband Don and spending a number of years camping with close friends at Atwood. In their travels, they shared a special bond especially as they visited Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where she spent hours on end hunting rocks along the Lake Superior shore.
Along with camping and vacations, Mary spent much of her time with friends whether it was playing bingo or her weekly trips to the coffee shop. She also never passed up a chance to try her luck at any casino. Above all, the time Mary cherished most was being able to be with family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her memberships included Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the New Philadelphia B.P.O.E. #510 Lady Elks.
She is survived by her two sons, Daniel (Colleen) Hostetler and Timothy (Patty) Hostetler all of New Philadelphia; a sister, Louise Roth of Canton; five grandchildren, Seth (Corrie) Hostetler, Kyle (Nicole) Hostetler all of Columbus, Chase Hostetler, Nicole Hostetler Wright and Jessica Hostetler all of New Philadelphia and two great-grandchildren, Lillian Wright and Aspen Hostetler.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald on April 29, 2014; an infant son, David Hostetler; a brother, James Pompey, and a grandson-in-law, Jeremy Wright.
The family will greet guests on Friday, June 13, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
