Mary Katherine Franz Vinci

Mary Kathleen Franz Vinci, age 95, of Dover, and formerly of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully early Thursday afternoon in New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover.

Born August 31, 1917, she was the only child born to the late Milton and Rose Carrick Craft.

A 1936 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, she worked at Bond’s Shoe Store and Newberry Variety Store, both formerly of downtown New Philadelphia. For more than 22 years, she worked as a receptionist in the office of Dr. Jim Zeller.

Best known as Katy to her family and friends, she was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Senior Citizens group of the church.

On January 22, 1938, she wed Raymond J. Franz. The couple celebrated forty-nine years of marriage prior to his death on September 19, 1978. She went on to marry Michael F. Vinci in 1987, and he too preceded her in death in May, 2003.

Survivors include her two daughters; Darlene (Joseph) McLaughlin of Dover, and Harriett (James) Purses of Canton, as well as a son, Pete (Beth) Franz of Dover.

Seven grandchildren; Mary (Wayne) Burns of New Philadelphia, Michael (Terri) McLaughlin of Weirton, WV, David (Joan) McLaughlin of New Philadelphia, Stephen (Diana Denny) McLaughlin of New Philadelphia, Devon Franz of Columbus, Pam (John) Cusick of Canton, and Christopher (Jean) Purses of Massillon also survive. Nine great-grandchildren complete the family.

There are no calling hours or public services.

She will be laid to rest alongside her husband Raymond in a private family ceremony in Sacred Heart Calvary Cemetery with Fr. Jeff Coning officiating.
