Mary Williams, age 76, of New Philadelphia died Saturday, April 9, 2011, in her home following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Harrison and Ola Johnson West, Mary was born on September 11, 1934, at Dover Ohio and attended New Philadelphia High School.For 30 years she worked at the former Harts Family Center located on the East end of New Philadelphia. Following her retirement, Mary went on to work for The Red Onion and Mary Zifer’s Pizza at New Philadelphia. Mary was an avid traveler having toured Canada, Mexico, Paris, France, and Germany. She also explored many parts of the United States as well covering the New England states, Texas, Oklahoma, and visited, on more than one occasion, her favorite destination, Las Vegas, Nevada.She was an avid fan of baseball and a die-hard Cleveland Indians fan. She found great joy in watching a game whether it be at an area ball field or watching the “pros” on television.A dedicated individual to her family, Mary took great pride in attending countless school plays, band and concert performances, dance recitals, and sporting events that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were participants of. She loved her family deeply and knew that any ailment or hurt could be fixed by supplying one of them with a bowl of her homemade spaghetti, her open ears, and the gift of forgiveness in her heart.Mary will long be remembered by her family which includes a daughter, Karen (Mike) Ryan of New Philadelphia; a sister, Dorothy Rothenstine, of Alabama, four grandchildren; Katrina Mackey, Mari Simpson, Amber Weselek, and William (Amy) Ryan; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia Weselek, Alexx, Bailey, Dayna, and Jamie Mackey, Michael (Jamie) Mackey, and Dakota Chesser; a great-great-grandson, Jude Berus, and an expectant great-great-granddaughter, Lexis Rose, to be born in July.Completing the family are a sister-in-law, Mary West; a brother-in-law, Howard Groff; and more than fifty nieces and nephews. Additionally, she was proud to have been an “honorary” grandma to Angie, John, Roni, Julia, Tinkerbelle, Mark, Amber, Virginia, Jake and countless others children she was introduced to by her grandchildren.In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Richard W. Williams, whom she married on January 30, 1951; her beloved son, Richard Williams, Jr.; Four brothers and their spouses, Harold (Almeda) West, William (Isabelle) West, Robert (Carrie) West, and Harrison West; two sisters, Margery (Richard) Kennedy, Pauline Groff; and a brother-in-law, Charles Rothenstine.In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation care will be provided through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover with a private graveside service to be led by Pastor Lomus Shuman in the Evergreen Burial Park.To share stories or express personal condolences to the family guests are invited to sign the online registry located on the funeral home’s website.
