Mary K. Hess, age 83, of Willoughby and formerly of Dover, passed away very suddenly of a health related issue on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in Lake Health Systems at Cleveland.Born January 22, 1928 in New Philadelphia, Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Eliza Jane (Medley) Garabrandt.In 1957, Mary wed her late husband, William Hess, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1987. She retired as a greeter at WalMart in New Philadelphia in 2003. Prior to that, Mary worked in housekeeping at the Delphian Inn. Watching Price is Right, reading, and working word puzzles were some of Mary’s hobbies. Mary’s family includes three daughters, Rebecca A. (Tim) Keifer of Belfair, WA, Debra K. (Woody) White of Millersburg, O., and Tammy Lee (Don) Davies of Kirtland, O.; two sons, Michael J. Pompey of Washington and Steven D. (fiancé, Dianne Gardner) Pompey of Sherrodsville, O.; her sister, Lucille Granato of New Philadelphia; her brother, Richard (Dixie) Garabrandt of New Philadelphia; and 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Tristan White; her sisters, Alice Vadislav, Bessie Shull, and Freida Bonisolli; and her brothers, Earl, Tom, William, Clarence “Gabby”, Elmer, and Delbert Garabrandt.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., with her service immediately following at 11:30 a.m.Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
