Mary Johnson, age 79, of New Philadelphia died Friday, February 9, 2018 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.
Mary was born in Sugarcreek on February 20, 1938 to the late Jonas and Sarah (Mast) Hershberger.
On August 1, 1958, Mary married the love of her life, the late Kenneth Johnson who preceded her in passing in 2014.
Mary was a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also an active member of the First Christian Church in New Philadelphia where she was involved with the Christian Builders Sunday School class. She also worked for a few years at the former Aberth’s Bakery and as a nursing assistant at Union Hospital for 18 years.
Mary is survived by her children, Anna (Tom) Miller of New Philadelphia, Eric (Lis’a) Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida and Steve (Scott Liggett) Johnson of Akron; three grandchildren, Terrin Miller of Houston, Texas, Gabrielle (Jermey) Renner of Dover, and Adam Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida; her great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Piper Renner; her siblings, Mattie (Menno) Erb, Henry Hershberger, Mable (Alvin) Otto, Anna Lapp, and Dan Hershberger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in passing by her sister, Clara Borkholder.
The family will greet guests on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Jim Borton will lead a service celebrating Mary’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 11 AM. Following services, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
