Mary Jo Fischio, age 83, a longtime resident of New Philadelphia, died peacefully Tuesday morning at Country Club Retirement Center in Dover following an extended illness. Born in Roswell, OH, on October 8, 1920, she was one of nine children born to the late Sabatino V. & Angelina Marchione Fischio. Mary Jo was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed gardening at her home. Survivors include sisters Erma Frew of Canton, Clara Virzi of North Royalton, and Helen (Harold) Sacherman of Youngstown; and brothers Frank (Pearl) Fischio, and Vincent “Jim” (Peggy) Fischio, all of New Philadelphia. Numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. She’ll be sadly missed by special friends Ruth and Keith Espenschied. In addition to her parents, a sister, Mary Vaccaro and two brothers; Amico and Pat Fischio, are deceased. Friends are invited to call Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Prayers will begin at 10:15 before the procession to Sacred Heart Church where Msgr. George J. Schlegel will celebrate a Funeral Mass at 10:30. Burial, alongside her parents, will follow at Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia. A reception will be given in St. Ambrose Hall, at Third St. NE and Fair Ave, following the service.
