Mary Jane Young, 90, a lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, August 26, 2010 in her home following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Ray and Hazel (Truman) Hemmeger, Mary Jane was born July 26, 1920 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.Mary Jane attended New Philadelphia Schools and on July 29, 1936, she married the love of her life, Donald Young at Wheeling, West Virginia. She was an excellent homemaker who not only enjoyed caring for her own family but for many others in her neighborhood. Over the years she cared for many scraped knees and elbows and fed meals and other snacks to her grandchildren and neighbor kids.When not caring for her family, Mary Jane worked for the former Reeves Hotel, Ashwood Bowling Lanes, Montgomery Ward and Woolworth’s.She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia. She was also a member of AARP and was a former leader of Girl Scout Troop #19 for many years.Mary Jane’s greatest passion was her family and she cherished spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandson.She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jane Hawk of New Philadelphia, her grandchildren, Janie (Eric) Hovan of New Philadelphia, Michelle (Rod) Hunt of Dover and Don (Rhonda) Hawk of New Philadelphia; great grandchildren, Ian Hawk of Columbus, Ohio, Ashley Hawk of New Philadelphia and her fiancé Brian Vorhees, Brianna Martinez of Bolivar and Corey and Katey Hunt both of Dover; her great great grandson, Nikolas Ohler of Bolivar a special niece, Janet Brady of Dover and her three four legged companions, Sadie, Gabbie and Molly.Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Ray Hemmeger Jr., and three nephews, James, William and Patrick Brady.The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 28, 2010 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Mary Jane’s life will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
