Mary Jane Kohl

Mary Jane Kohl, 90, of Sherrodsville and formerly of Dover, peacefully passed away at Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston after living with dementia for several years.

She was born in New Philadelphia on November 8, 1934, to the late Raymond and Edna Marie (Rodd) Edwards. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, Mary Jane worked for various companies, including John W. Cookson Co. and Lowe’s.

On June 18, 1960, she married the late Roland Edward Kohl, and they were blessed with a son, Dennis.

Mary Jane had a passion for learning, especially when it came to birds and flowers. She could identify almost anything and would immediately research anything she didn't know. She also owned Kohl's Crafts and Supply on 5th Street in New Philadelphia and enjoyed crafting. In her later years, she found joy in coloring on her Kindle and completing word search puzzles.

Her family includes her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Myndy Kohl of Sherrodsville; stepdaughters, Isabelle (William) Holley of Cuyahoga Falls and Darlene Stanley of Newcomerstown; brother, Richard (Jan) Edwards of Florida; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Russell (Jacque) Edwards, Paul Kenneth (Dorothy) Edwards, Glenn (Bobbe) Edwards, Edna June (Kenneth) Weber, William Robert Edwards, and Thelma Rae (Richard) Haines. She was also preceded by her son-in-law, James Stanley.

A casual memorial visitation will be held at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cremation has been entrusted to Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.

Memorial donations in Mary Jane’s honor may be made to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.
