Mary J. Gintz

Mary J. Gintz, 98, of Dover was called home in her sleep by her Heavenly Father on January 2, 2013 following a period of declining health.
Born in Roswell on April 1, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Camilla and Carmela (Amigone) DeSerio.
Mary met her late husband, Robert Gintz at a dance and were later married on February 26, 1938. They shared a wonderful life together until his passing in June of 1992.
Her professional career began as a waitress at Elks Lodge in New Philadelphia and ultimately retired from Olen Mills Studio. At home, Mary was an avid berry picker and loved making homemade jam. She used to garden and enjoyed canning. She also loved watching the hummingbirds that came to her feeders. One thing she looked forward to every fall was making wine alongside her son, Bill.
A generous spirit, Mary loved doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also watched the humming birds.
Mary and Robert were members of the former St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Roswell.
She will be deeply missed by her children, William (Kathryn) Gintz of Dover and Carol (Don) Leaver of Wooster; her grandchildren, Camille (Matt) Busch of NC, Angie (Bill) Barker of Canal Winchester, O., Adam (Heather) Leaver of MN, Aimee Gintz of Dover, Robyn (Bryan) Hughes of New Philadelphia; her great-grandchildren, Gavin and Emma Leaver and Matthew Hughes; and 2 step-great-grandchildren, Ian King and Stewart Barker. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins complete the family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by all 11 of her siblings which included John, Nicholas, Richard, Patsy, Anthony, Nancy, Ruby, Geraldine, Lucille, Florence, and Frances.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, no public visitation will take place. A brief service will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with her nephew, John M. DeSerio, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
Memorial contributions may be directed to either the Tuscarawas County Humane Society or Bisel United Methodist Church in Dover, O.
