Mary E. Thurman

Mary Elizabeth Thurman, 77, of Dover, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, December 21, 2006, following an extended illness. Born in Dover on January 25, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Laura Milliken.She was a devoted loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a graduate of Dover High School and attended Kent State University. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia. She enjoyed sewing, reading especially the Bible, working in her flower beds, family vacations, and working in a variety ways in the church.She was preceded in death by her sister and brother Â?in-law, Sara and Bill Rabes; and brother-in-law, John Lawver.Mary will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 56 years, Dean Thurman; two daughters, Cathy (Galen) Scammahorn of East Alton, Illinois, DeAnn (Rod) Rawdon of New Philadelphia; son, Mark (Tammy) Thurman of Portage, Michigan; six grandchildren, Shari (Troy) Hochstetler, Kara Scammahorn, Julie Rawdon, Ashley (John) MacAdam, Scott and Matt Thurman; brother, Bill (Goldie) Milliken of Dover; brother-in-law, Norman (Barbara) Thurman of New Philadelphia; sister-in-law, Jean Lawver of Newcomerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.The Rev. William Waltz will lead the Thurman funeral service on Tuesday, December 26, 2006, 11:00 a.m. in the First Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia, with calling hours one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park.A reception will be given for family and friends following the committal at the church fellowship hall.Those unable to attend are invited to send condolences to the family, sign an online guest registry, and view a memorial to Mrs. Thurman by visiting the funeral home’s website.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 233 Fair Avenue N.E., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
