Mary E. McCluggage

Mary E. McCluggage, 95, of Dover and formerly New Philadelphia, died Monday, January 10, 2011 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Gilbert and Lavinia (Renicker) Wilson, Mary was born May 19, 1915 at Warren Township, Ohio.Mary graduated from New Philadelphia High School and on March 11, 1935, she married Ralph J. McCluggage. The couple shared 47 years of marriage prior to Ralph’s passing on August 11, 1982.She was primarily a homemaker but once worked as a housekeeper for Clara Scott. She was also a former member of the Dover Baptist Temple.For the past eight years, Mary was a resident of New Dawn Retirement Community and she thoroughly enjoyed her time there. She especially enjoyed activity time and socializing with the staff and other residents.She is survived by two sons, Gilbert McCluggage of Bronx, New York and Lester (Georgia) McCluggage of Bonney Lake, Washington; her grandchildren, Randy of Bonney Lake, Washington and Linda and Larry both of Sheridan, Oregon and two other grandchildren; a great grandchild who lives in New York, a sister, Sarah Simpkins of Orville, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; a sister and a grandchild.Visitation will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Mary’s life will follow in the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating. Private burial will take place in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
