Mary Dindo DeNicola, 87, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday evening, January 11, 2004 at Union Hospital.Mary was born in Nokomis, IL on March 16, 1916, a daughter to the late Domenico Eusebio and Pasqua Caterina “Esther” Cocco Dindo. During the 1930’s, Mary worked for Woolworth’s in New Philadelphia. In the 1980’s, Mary and the women she had worked with at Woolworth’s reunited and the group became known as the “Golden Girls.” On October 28, 1939 she married Joseph J. DeNicola. Together, Mary and Joe shared 50 years of marriage until his death on June 12, 1990. During World War II, Mary served her country by helping build bomb bay door hinges for the B-17 “Flying Fortress” airplane in Louisville, OH. Mary was a quilting judge for the Tuscarawas County Fair for several years and was a member of the “Piecemakers” quilting group. She was also a member of Sacred Heart parish.She leaves behind a daughter, Elaine (Paul) Thomas of Canal Winchester; a son, Gene (Peggy) DeNicola of New Philadelphia; a sister, Vera (Eugene) Maistrelli of New Philadelphia; a granddaughter, Meridith (Adam) Howell of Lexington, KY; two grandsons, Tony DeNicola of Cleveland and Greg Thomas of Canal Winchester. In addition to her parents and husband, three brothers, Gino, Tony and John Dindo, preceded her in death.Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2004 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home. Rev. Msgr. George J. Schlegel will conduct the funeral at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Then, Mary will be buried alongside Joe at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Following the cemetery committal everyone is warmly invited to a meal in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.Please, instead of flowers, contributions in Mary’s memory should be made to “Dress A Child”, c/o Joann Denison, 206 So.
