Mary Catherine Swenk

Mary Catherine Swenk, age 88, of Tuscarawas¸died Wednesday, October 09, 2013 in Schoenbrunn Health Care at New Philadelphia.

Born at Tuscarawas, Ohio on March 9, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Gertrude (Sensanbaugher) Simmons.

On April 27, 1985, Mary wed Robert Swenk and both are members of Sharon Moravian Church. As an active member of the congregation, Mary was a member of the church choir and taught Sunday school.

Additionally, Mary enjoyed singing, cooking, gardening, being with her family and grandchildren and always looked forward to Holiday gatherings.

For more than 15 years, she was employed by Union Hospital at Dover where she worked the patient registration desk.

Along with Robert, she is survived by her son; Alan (Georgie) Johns of New Philadelphia, Ohio and daughter; Paula (Mike) Hodson of Strongsville, Ohio.

Three grandchildren; Shanda (Jason) Mushrush, Christopher Hodson and Patrick Hodson; and two great-grandchildren; Joseph and Cambri Mushrush complete the family.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Victor Johns; a brother, Richard (Margaret) Ray Simmons; and a nephew, Richard R. Simmons, Jr.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead a service celebrating Mary’s life in the funeral homes chapel on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
