Mary A. Destefani-Vik, age 89, of New Philadelphia died peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2009, in Columbus, with her family by her side.Born on November 22, 1919 at Wainwright, Ohio, Mary was a daughter of the late Massimo and Minnie Bertha (Welz) Basiletti.Mary will be remembered as a genuine, good-hearted Christian woman who loved caring for her family and others. She also enjoyed being outdoors and gardening as well as dancing and listening to music.Mary was an active member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, Red Hat Society, The Senior Center, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose and VFW.She leaves behind many friends throughout Port Richey, Florida, Greenville, South Carolina and Columbus, Ohio.She also leaves behind her loving family that includes three sons, Charles (Mary Louise) Destefani of Westerville, Ohio, Ronald (Lois) Destefani of Lederach, Pennsylvania, and Paul (Juanita) Destefani of New Philadelphia; two daughters, Shirley (Rollin) Hyust of Greenville, South Carolina, and Mary Jean (Steven) Botos of Pickerington, Ohio; three brothers, Emmett Basiletti, Lester Basiletti, and Clarence Basiletti; and two sisters, Betty Jean Hicks, and Ramona Weber.Thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by husbands, Charles Louis Destefani and Arthur Vik, a daughter, Linda McMillan; an infant son, Jerry Lee Destefani, ten brothers and three sisters.The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 6, 2009, from 1:00 â?? 4:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Christian Wake Services will begin at 3:45 PM. Friends are also invited to call again on Monday, September 7, 2009, from 9:00 â?? 10:00 AM in the New Philadelphia funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Monsignor George J. Schlegel and Father Daniel Ochs, at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.The family requests that memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be sent to the Catholic Relief Services c/o Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
