Marvin “Ron” Ronald Gatchell, 68, of Dover, died Sunday, September 10, 2006 at his residence.Born January 6, 1938 in Uhrichsville, he is a son of the late Clarence E. and Aletha (Stahl) Gatchell. After finishing his formal education, he joined the United States Navy where he honorably served our country for four years. He was stationed both on the USS Jasper and the USS Forrestal. After concluding his service with the Navy, he then served in the United States Marines. Ron’s professional career as an electrician spanned more than 34 years with Republic Steel. He also gave of his time volunteering with the Tuscarawas County Sheriffs Department as a reserve officer for numerous years.He will long be remembered for his sharp wit and love of nature. He enjoyed spending time riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing, and also playing cards with friends.Ron is survived by his fiancé of 22 years, Lori; one daughter; a brother, Richard E. (Sandy) Gatchell of Gnadenhutten; nieces and nephews, Steve (Jennifer) Gilmore of Strasburg, Mike (Nancy) Gatchell and their family of Uhrichsville, Brian (Kim) Gatchell and their family of Gnadenhutten, and Kevin (step-daughter, Jessica Parrish) Gatchell of Gnadenhutten.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Gatchell and Wilma Gilmore.Visitation will be held at the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Avenue, Dover on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral celebrating Ron’s life will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Don Gilmore and Pastor Gary Edmunds officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery at Uhrichsville.
