In her free time, Martha enjoyed knitting, reading and working crossword puzzles. She was also known among her family for her cooking, in particularly, apple pies, Texas sheet cake, and potato salad. Additionally, for hours on end each year, Martha canned many of the goods which were produced from her husband’s massive garden.
She is survived by her four children, Richard G. (Susan) Carlisle of Norwalk, Ohio, Robert A. (Judith) Carlisle of New Philadelphia, Julie (Edward) Shafer of Bolivar and Karen (Daniel) Powell of New Philadelphia; a sister, Loueva Underwood of Uhrichsville and a sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Peoples.
