Mark T. Davis, age 50, of New Philadelphia, died Friday afternoon, January 15, 2010, in Mercy Medical Center at Canton following a brief illness.A son of the late Thomas W. and Elda L. (West) Davis, Mark was born in Union Hospital at Dover, on March 5, 1959.A graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Mark went on to obtain a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He later earned his license as a professional engineer in Ohio and Kentucky.For the past twenty-nine years, Mark worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11 as a civil engineer, most recently holding the position of Construction Engineer.Mark was active within the local Masonic bodies having earned a 32nd Degree Master Mason in the New Philadelphia Lodge # 177 F. & A. M. He was also involved with the York and Scottish Rites and the Order of the Eastern Star # 222.Mark was a boy at heart and a model train enthusiast who enjoyed designing and building H.O. Scale train sets and villages. Mark loved to build and admire model aviation pieces and antique toys. Mark also volunteered to play Taps on his bugle for local military funeral details. Survivors include his wife of twenty-six years, the former Debbie Campbell, whom he married on September 17, 1983; two sons; Kevin Davis who is serving in the United States Coast Guard at Traverse City, Michigan and Kyle Davis who is a student of Architecture at Kent State University presently studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Mark’s mother-in-law, Barbara Campbell of New Philadelphia, also survives. Three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins complete the family.In addition to his parents, Mark is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Carl Campbell.The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 4PM to 7PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A Masonic Lodge of Sorrow will be convene at 7PM.The Rev. Dick Greenwood will lead a service celebrating Mark’s life in the funeral home’s chapel Tuesday morning at 10:30. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.Following the committal service, family and friends will gather for a reception in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
