Marjorie Mae Miller passed away peacefully in Naples, FL, on December 6, 2013. She was 94.
Margie was born January 20, 1919 in New Philadelphia, the daughter of Carl and Pauline (Lewis) Curtis. She graduated valedictorian from New Philadelphia High School and attended Ohio University. She married Charles Joseph Miller, Jr., M.D., of New Philadelphia, in 1944, and gave birth to three sons from 1945 to 1950. Margie and Charlie lived in Akron, Ohio, from 1951 to 1992, and in Bonita Springs, FL, from 1992 to 2012. After 68 years of marriage Margie’s beloved Charlie passed away in December, 2012, and Margie moved to Naples in January, 2013, where she lived with two loving caregivers in a private residence.
Margie is survived by two sons, Charles Joseph Miller III (wife Kristina) of Princeton, NJ, and John Robert Miller of Valley City, OH; by her granddaughter Ashley Miller Szyluk (husband Erik) and by her three great-grandchildren, Ann Elizabeth Szyluk, Erik Kristopher Szyluk Jr., and Lucy Mae Szyluk, of West Hartford, CT. Margie is also survived by Pam and Andy Pease of Naples, FL, the close friends of the Miller family who invited Margie to reside in their home in Naples after the passing of Margie’s husband.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; by two brothers, Edward and Glenn; by her husband Charlie’s parents Charles J. and Artha (Best) Miller; by Charlie’s sisters Geraldine and Mary Josephine and brother Robert; by her son John’s wife Ann Myers Miller; by her very precious second son Curtis William who passed away at the age of 8 in 1954; and by her husband Charlie.
During her younger days in Akron Margie was a member of the United Church of Christ, Fairlawn Country Club, Summit County Medical Society Auxiliary, Akron Woman’s City Club, Braewick Circle Garden Club, and Fairlawn Flairettes Bowling League.
Margie was very special, devoting her entire adult life to her husband and children and grandchildren, and enjoying her great-grandchildren during the last six years of her life. She was petite but strong, a lady of wit and humor, and a perfectionist homemaker. And few have had better command of the King’s English, as demonstrated by Margie’s success conquering crossword puzzles. Her family, her caregivers, and her friends will forever treasure their memories of Margie.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to a charitable fund in honor of Margie’s second son would be very much appreciated. Such contributions can be made to: The Quaker Foundation, Attn: The Curtis William Miller Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 627, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
