Marjorie Louise Harmon

July 31, 1930 — September 4, 2014

Marjorie Louise Harmon, age 84, formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014, in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover.

A daughter of the late John E. and Hazel M. (Cochrane) Carling, Marjorie was born July 31, 1930 at Akron, Ohio.

Marjorie attended school at Mineral City. She went on to spend her working life as a cook and kitchen manager. During her younger years, she was employed by the former Dutch Oven in downtown New Philadelphia and later retired from the Dover VFW.

Though short in stature, Marjorie never let it interfere with her ability to get anything accomplished. She always enjoyed living life to its fullest, which led her to spend her free time playing Bingo, fishing and boating on Leesville Lake. Marjorie was happy to welcome the neighborhood children, as well as any child, who would visit her home. Additionally, she was known for her love of dancing, having shared many evenings on the dance floor with her brother-in-law, John.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Kaplan of Des Plaines, Illinois and David (Amelia) Harmon of New Philadelphia; a sister, Mary Ellen (John) Wright of New Philadelphia; a brother, Charles (Shirley) Carling of Labelle, Florida; three grandchildren, Christopher (Denise) Harmon of New Philadelphia, Shawn Stein of Minerva, and Jana (Gary) Santucci-Stilphen of Des Plaines, Illinois; six great-grandchildren, Leah and Jaxon Harmon, Miranda and Robbie Stein, Taylor Santucci and Gracin Stilphen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert Harmon, who died on December 24, 2000; two sisters, Floralee Konitzer and Eileen Reynolds; three brothers, Walter, Wayne, and John Carling; and a grandson, Brent Stein.

In keeping with Marjorie’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services.
