Marjorie G. Larkin

Marjorie Girt Larkin, age 97, of Hanover House, Massillon and formerly of Dover, died Thursday, January 1, 2015 following a period of declining health.

Marge, as she was best known to family and friends was born in New Philadelphia on September 27, 1917, one of 10 children born to the late Martin and Laura (Girt) Larkin.

She attended New Philadelphia High School and in her younger years, served the City of New Philadelphia as a treasurer. Marge later relocated to Arizona and California where she worked as a payroll and clerical secretary for a number of firms. Marge also lived for a period of time in New York and greatly enjoyed traveling having visited a number of cities throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Marge enjoyed a free spirited lifestyle, and enjoyed creative writing, doing calligraphy, playing cards and being a giving individual. Her additional hobbies included genealogy work and tracing the family’s Irish Heritage.

Later in life, Marge returned to the Tuscarawas Valley, and cared for her family and enjoyed the time spent with them.

Locally, Marge is survived by nephews, Timothy (Denise) Larkin of Dover, Frank Larkin of New Philadelphia; a niece, Velma Truman of Dover and numerous other nieces, nephews, and their families.

In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by six brothers, Emmett, Adrian, Clarence, Warren, Garnet, and Martin Larkin and three sisters, Zedith Truman, Ellen Stucky, and Olwen Wilson.

A graveside service will be led by Rev. Jim Humphrey, in the East Avenue Cemetery on Monday, January 12, 10:00 AM, 2015. In keeping with Marge’s wishes cremation has taken place through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
