Marjorie Ellwood, age 78, of May Valley, New Philadelphia, died Friday, February 4, 2005, in Union Hospital at Dover. Mrs. Ellwood had been a resident of New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover since November, 2004.Born September 20, 1926 in Goshen, she was a daughter of the late Charles Daniel and Elizabeth Bertha Carlisle Snyder. One of eight children in the family, Marjorie walked from the family home in Goshen to a one-room school in Midvale. Family and friends will remember her as a hard worker. While she was a homemaker for most of her life, she still found time to deliver groceries for the former Graff Grocery Store, and work as an aide at Union Hospital many years ago. On August 4, 1945, she married Grover Earl Ellwood, Jr. who survives. Together, the couple raised a family of four daughters, Elizabeth Weinhardt of New Philadelphia, Linda (Roger) Swiney of Sherrodsville, Carol Stutzman of New Philadelphia, and Susan (Mike) Patrick of New Philadelphia. An extensive family survives, including grandchildren Lauri Budimlic, Jodi Forshey, Daniel Weinhardt, Wendi Preston, Douglas Swiney, Steven Swiney, Jennifer Swiney, Gwendolyn Stutzman, Amy Stutzman, Derek Swaldo and Cierra Patrick; and great grandchildren, Jason, Alivia, Alexis, Savanna, Alaina, Chelsea, Ashley, Alison, Jessica, Austin, Brandon and Megan; sisters Betty Ballentine of Dover, Maxine (Art) Scott of Stonecreek, and Alice (Harley) Vogel of New Philadelphia; a brother, John (Marilyn) Snyder of Strasburg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Hanks-Williams; two brothers Robert and Charles Snyder; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Snyder. Friends are invited to call Monday afternoon from 4 until 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Elder Glenn Carlisle will officiate Marjorie’s funeral ceremony Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Geib Chapel in New Philadelphia. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park, and a reception will be given inside the new Geib Funeral Center, adjacent to the cemetery at Dover, following the committal service.
