Marjorie Anne Hanner-Grate

Marjorie Anne Hanner Grate, 83, a former resident of Strasburg and Dover Ohio, died peacefully in her Miami, Florida home, where she had been a resident since 1963. Born June 30, 1920 in Canton Ohio, she was the oldest of four children born to Walter Ray and Margaret Leora Kemp Hanner. Marjorie was baptized and confirmed as a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Strasburg, a graduate of Strasburg High School before receiving a Bachelor’s degree in education from the Ohio State University in 1946. She spent twenty years teaching elementary education in Southern Florida. Survivors include her husband Donald Grate, a retired coach, school teacher and professional baseball player; a son, D. Jeffrey (Barbara) Grate of Atlanta, GA; a daughter Margaret “Marnie” Grate of Miami, Fl; brothers Walter R. Hanner Jr. of Beachwood, OH and Thomas J. (Mike) Hanner of Dunwoody, Ga; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Willard K. Hanner in August of this year. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services held in Hollywood Florida. There are no local services planned.
