Marilyn Sue Lorenzoni, age 60, of New Philadelphia went to be with the Lord, on Saturday, April 11, 2015 following a lengthy illness.
A twin daughter of the late Louis and Helen Marcella (Craig) Lorenzoni, Marilyn and her sister, Carolyn were born in Union Hospital at Dover on September 20, 1954.
The twins attended the former Roswell Elementary and were 1973 graduates of Indian Valley North High School. Following graduation, Marilyn went to work for the Social Security Office in New Philadelphia, transferred to Chicago, IL for a few months, and retired from the office in Cincinnati. After retirement she worked alongside her husband, Stewart Harper, who owned Top of the Hill Catering in the Columbus area. Marilyn drove school bus for 2 years in the Lebanon School District, was a dispatch operator for a trucking company, and ended her work history as a payee representative for New Housing in Lebanon, Ohio.
Following the death of her husband in 2009, she returned to New Philadelphia to be close to family. Her twin sister, Carolyn and brother-in-law, Ron, became her daily companions as well as caregivers. Marilyn was excited to re-acquainted herself with Tuscarawas County and its many and varied attractions.
As Marilyn’s deteriorating heath became acute, and treatment became more invasive, her attitude and optimistic outlook was an example to all. She never complained but stayed full of hope and looked forward to overcoming her health issues so she could pursue another career and travel. Marilyn showed those around her true strength, determination, and most importantly, her Faith.
Marilyn attended Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia and was an avid lover of animals, caring for her pets as if they were her own children. She will be deeply missed by her Golden Retrievers, Jake and Elwood. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and really enjoyed many dishes prepared by Carolyn that were, “Just like Mom used to make.” Listening to Bluegrass Music inspired her to purchase a purple fiddle in hopes of one day learning to play. The care shown her by friends Todd and Evy Steele and their children, Chase, Rylie and Mac, as well as Lois McAtee brought great joy to Marilyn’s life daily.
Marilyn leaves behind her twin sister, Carolyn (Ron) Brodzinski of New Philadelphia, her special nieces, Megan Erwin of Akron and Melissa Erwin of California and her Aunt Verma Lorenz of New Philadelphia, whom she shared many a prayerful visit with.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Lorenzoni, who passed away February 8, 2015; a stillborn brother, Doyle Eugene Lorenzoni; and a brother-in-law, Rick Erwin.
Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday April 16, 2015, at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship in St. Ambrose Hall, adjacent to the church.
Instead of floral tributes, the family requests contributions in Marilyn’s name may be directed to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Road NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
