Marilyn J. Bracken

December 6, 1924 — April 4, 2015

Marilyn J. Bracken, 90, of Dover, passed away April 4, 2015 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.

Born December 6, 1924 in Sugarcreek, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Esther (Miller) Mishler.

After graduating from Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School, she continued her formal education at the Mercy School of Nursing where she became a registered nurse. She served patients at the former Timken Mercy Hospital in Canton for a number of years.

Marilyn was married to the late James C. Bracken. Together, they were blessed with three children and a wonderful host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all whom they adored.

Her faith was nurtured at Christ Community Church in Dellroy. She also had a love for watching and feeding the wildlife around her home “Standing Rock” in Carrollton. Marilyn’s love for animals was evident not only outside, but within the walls of her home, tending to her dogs and cats. She served with the Carroll County Humane Society and also loved to cook, garden, and do crafts.

She will be deeply missed by her children, James E (Cynthia) Bracken of Dover, Carla J. (Jim) Martin and Kristina K. (William) Lee, all of Louisville; her grandchildren, Michelle (John) Riddle, Holly Bracken, Todd (Lisa) Bracken, Brian (Michele) Martin, Jamie Martin Whaley, Kevin Martin, and William Lee; her great-grandchildren, Marisa Whaley, Alexandria and Benjamin Martin, Bodie, Peyton, and Camden Riddle, Malaina Martin, and Elli and Knox Bracken; her sister, June Krieter; and her brother, David Mishler.

A memorial service celebrating Marilyn’s life will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Saturday, April 11 beginning at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ron Silver officiating. A meal will be served in the hospitality center in the funeral home immediately following the service. Cremation will be cared for through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
