Marilyn Ann Young, age 83, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Monday morning, June 11, 2007, in New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover. Born at Canton, December 17, 1923, Marilyn was a daughter of the late Earl and Venna Cochenour Perdue. Marilyn graduated from Canton McKinley High School. Following graduation Marilyn went to work with the Ohio Power Company (now American Electric Power). While at work she became reacquainted with her childhood friend, Robert Young. Their relationship grew and the couple wed August 11, 1946. While both would take credit for marrying a great catch, their sixty-one years of marriage is a perfect example of growing together while honoring one another’s interests. She liked to watch television, Bob liked the outdoors. She enjoyed music, and he enjoyed peace and quiet. Together Marilyn and Bob delighted in serving others, especially through Broadway United Methodist Church, where they have been members for forty years. Prior to that time, the couple resided at West Lafayette where she and Bob were members of West Lafayette United Methodist Church. In the 1970’s and Â?80’s Marilyn worked with the East Central Ohio Special Education Regional Resource Center (ECO SERRC) as a secretary and coordinator of educational films and books that were distributed to area schools. Following retirement the Young’s traveled some — but more often were found helping other people in any way they could. Marilyn remained active in the Golden Rule Sunday School Class, and the Mary Martha Circle at Broadway UMC. In the last thirteen years, she enjoyed family dinners whether at her son’s homes or in restaurants with family members. Marilyn will be missed by all who knew her in her 83 years. Her family, in addition to her husband Bob of New Philadelphia, includes her sons, Jason, of New Philadelphia, and Fred of Fredericksburg, Virginia. A brother, Mark C. (Sally) Perdue of Wisconsin, complete the family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Ryliss Howenstein, and brother Earl Reed Perdue, Jr. Marilyn will be cremated. Pastor Bill Sowers will lead a memorial service celebrating Marilyn’s life Saturday afternoon, June 16, 2007 at 1PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A reception will follow immediately in the Hospitality Room at the Funeral Center. The family will greet friends from 12:30 until the beginning of the service. The Young family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Rainbow Connection, P.O. 617 New Philadelphia OH 44663, or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Ohio, 3380 Tremont Road, Columbus, OH 43221.
