Marian M. Milburn, age 59, of Midvale, died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family Monday morning, June 16, 2008. Born at Dover, March 2, 1949, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Georgia Chaney Allan. Marian was a member of the historic class of 1967 from Midvale High School, the final class to graduate before consolidation. Marian was a lifelong resident of Midvale, and dedicated many hours of service to her community. She was a certified firefighter and emergency medical technician, serving the village between 1980 and 1990. She went on to serve as village clerk, and was instrumental in converting the village records to modern accounting standards. Marian also worked over the years for the former Puritan Laundry, the East Circle and East High residences and the Tuscarawas County Home. Over the years, Marian has attended the First Baptist Church at New Philadelphia.Most of all, Marian enjoyed her role as homemaker for her family. She loved to crochet, and delighted in making afghans, slippers and potholders for her family and friends. Her family will remember her for her positive outlook on life, especially in the wake of her fifteen month battle with cancer. No one in her family can recall her complaining, even once. She leaves behind a family that includes her husband of forty-one years, Tom Milburn, of Midvale. The couple wed July 22, 1967 in Midvale United Methodist Church. Together they reared a family that includes four sons; Tommy (wife Tina) Milburn of Dover, Timothy (wife Beth) Milburn of New Philadelphia, Mike (wife Carrie) Milburn of Tappan, Jason (wife Jen) Milburn of Midvale.Survivors also include a step-daughter, Lori Freed of Uhrichsville. Marian will be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Tyler and Zander Milburn of Dover, Devin and Logan Milburn of Tappan, McCade and Quinton Milburn of Midvale, and step-grandchildren; Jessica Freed, Mindy (husband Shea) Burdette, and two step-great-grandchildren, Brooke and Shea Shea Burdette. Other step-grandchildren include Josh Doane, Chanel and Alexis Malone, Savannah Blackwell and Ashley Swain. In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by her brother, Donald E. Allan, who was killed in action while serving in Vietnam. Friends are invited to call Wednesday, June 18, 2008, from 3-5 and from 7-9 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a firefighters memorial service will commence at 8:45. The Reverend Dan Milburn will lead Marian’s funeral service Thursday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in Holmes Church Cemetery. Following the committal service, family and friends will gather for a reception in the Midvale Park Pavilion. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website.
