Marian Barcus, age75, of Strasburg, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2009, in Aultman Hospital at Canton.Born at Akron, September 9, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Burrell “Buck” and Virginia Rose Gordon Measell.Marian was a 1952 graduate of Coventry High School, and earned a bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Akron. For most of her life, Marian worked as an executive secretary, first in the executive offices at Firestone Tire, then at the former Babcox & Wilcox of Barberton. She worked as the principal’s secretary at Dover High School, then at Gradall (formerly Warner & Swasey) at New Philadelphia.Marian went on to work at Milipore of Bedford, Massachusetts, where she had the opportunity to meet then President George H. W. Bush when he visited their headquarters. From Bedford, Marian moved again to northeast Ohio, working at Weatherchem of Twinsburg, and ultimately at Stephenson Stephenson Carrothers & Ong, LPA, at New Philadlephia. A member of the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia, and its Master Builders Sunday School Class, Marian enjoyed knitting, sewing, making crafts, gardening, and then enjoying the flowers from her garden. She’ll be remembered by her husband Homer as a wonderful homemaker. She leaves behind an extensive family, who, in addition to her husband Homer Barcus of Strasburg, whom she wed March 3, 2007, includes daughters; Jennie (husband Jim) Breznak of Dover, Sherrie (husband Marty) Garner of New Philadelphia, a son; David Van Horn of Lawrence, Massachusetts, and daughter Marcia Van Horn of Kent, Ohio. Marian was blessed to raise two step-daughters; Karen Braman of Norton, Sherry (husband John) Vlad of New Philadelphia, and a step-son; Robert Van Horn of Lodi, Ohio.She’ll be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Jimmy, Alex, and Katie Breznak, Jason (wife Tracy) Corbin, Joshua Van Horn, Brandon Vlad, Michael (wife Janet) Wagner, and Joel (wife Allyson) Wagner. Five great-grandchildren; Madison, and Ella Wagner, Tyson and Jada Corbin, and Francesca Wagner also survive. Marian’s family also includes her sisters; Betty (husband David) Johns of Norton, Kim Sartori of Barberton, brothers; Don Measell of Barberton, Kevin (wife Sue) Measell also of Barberton, David (wife Linda) Measell of Copley, and Dennis Measell. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Since the marriage of Marian to Homer in 2007, his family; son Kevin (wife Wanda) Barcus of Dover, daughter Leslie Barcus of Washington D.C. and grandson Clay Barcus have welcomed her into their family, and will mourn her passing. In addition to her parents, Marian is preceded in death by a sister Carol Swiger, and an infant sister Maurine Measell. Friends are invited to call Friday morning from 10 Â? 11 in the First Christian Church at 104 Third Street NW New Philadelphia. Pastor Jim Borton will lead Marion’s funeral Friday morning at 11 in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal service, a dessert reception will be given in the church fellowship hall. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website.
