Marian “Greta” Kaltenbaugh, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Aultman Hospital in Canton. She would have celebrated her 77th birthday on March 26.Born in Glenshaw, PA, Greta was the daughter of the late Bertram and Mary V. Lindberg Kinsey. She graduated in 1944 from Dover High School and married Richard M. “Baldy” Kaltenbaugh in September of the following year. They had enjoyed 36 years of marriage before his death on December 7, 1981.Greta made family a priority in her life, embracing her role as wife, mother, and, later, as grandmother and great-grandmother.She attended the Leavittsville United Methodist Church in Leavittsville and enjoyed pretty punch embroidery and other crafts. Greta was often seen at area yard sales and regularly attended the Head Injury Support Group with her son and DART, a kidney support group. While a patient at Hennis Care Centre, she often volunteered to help with crafts and with other patients. Her “I’m mean and hateful” response to inquiries about her health might have startled strangers, but was anticipated and enjoyed by those who loved her.Greta is survived by daughters, Toni J. Kaltenbaugh of New Philadelphia, Terri (Terry) Glass of New Philadelphia, Tami (Keith) Stone of Mineral City; sons, Thomas “T.K.” Kaltenbaugh of Dover and Tim Kaltenbaugh of New Philadelphia; grandsons, Troy Glass of Maryland, Joshua and Helena Glass of Akron, Toby Glass and his fiancée, Megan Bailey, of Columbus, and Joel and Tod Stone of Mineral City; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Robert) Beans of New Philadelphia; and many special friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents and her husband, a brother, Thomas Kinsey, sister-in-law, Violet Kaltenbaugh, and mother-in-law, Nellie Rasche, preceded her in death. At her request, a graveside service conducted by Pastor John Wood followed private family visitation. Greta was buried next to her husband at Dover Burial Park.
