Marian Elizabeth Lorenz, 92, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, October 02, 2006 in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover.Miss Lorenz was born on November 19, 1913 on the family farm outside of Stone Creek. She was the eldest daughter of the late Elmer F. and Gertrude (Beitzel) Lorenz.She graduated as the class valedictorian from New Philadelphia High School in 1932. At an early age, she made her decision to serve her Savior, Jesus Christ through teaching and mission work. Miss Lorenz attended God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio and then graduated from Bible School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In order to afford to attend Bible School, she raised turkeys on the family farm until she had enough money saved.After completing her studies, Miss Lorenz taught in various Christian Schools in Salem, Ohio, Alliance, Ohio, Xenia, Ohio, Colorado Springs and Pennsylvania. In 1963, she went to Guatemala as a field missionary and then returned in 1980 to take care of her parents in Stone Creek.Miss Lorenz was active in Emmanuel Church at New Philadelphia and enjoyed studying and writing about scripture. At the age of 89, she wrote a book titled “Christ Triumphant”. She shared her mother’s love for flowers and singing hymns. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, sense of humor, thoughtfulness towards others and living her life in simple obedience to the faith that sustained her over the years.She is survived by two sisters, Patricia Allison of Dover and Doris Hanson of Mesa, Arizona; one brother, Jim Lorenz of Stone Creek, a special nephew, Jim Lorenz; a special friend at the nursing home, Loretta Dagnone and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard Lorenz.Family and friends may call on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. Allen Crawford and Rev. Brian Flood officiating. Burial will follow at Stone Creek Cemetery.
