Marian Alta Powell, 83, of New Philadelphia, died Friday evening, July 18, 2003 in Union Hospital following a sudden illness at her home. Born April 26, 1920 in Morrisdale, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Henry H. and Olive M. Hubler Evans.Alta was a caregiver her entire life. When she was a young lady, she began caring for her younger sister and brothers upon the death of her parents. She delighted in helping others, and in recent years enjoyed caring for her husband Herbert Powell, whom she married October 14, 1996. In her spare time, Marian enjoyed sewing, and gardening.Mrs. Powell was an active member of the New Philadelphia First Church of The Nazarene. In addition to her husband Herbert, she is survived by her sister, Wilma McKinzie of Indianapolis, Indiana; a brother, Robert (Helen) Blair Evans Thorntown, Indiana, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Grimm, who passed away October 10, 1985, and three brothers, Arthur, Henry Breon, and Roy Evans. Friends may call Monday, July 21, from 4 until 7 at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia. Rev. Terry Kidd will officiate Mrs. Powell’s funeral Tuesday morning, July 22, at 11:00 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Fair Street Cemetery. Following the committal service, a meal will be served in the social hall of the First Church of the Nazarene. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the New Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene, 233 Fair Avenue, NE New Philadelphia, Ohio, 44663.
