Margaret Louise Simmons

Margaret Louise “Peggy” Clerici Simmons, age 74, of New Philadelphia left this life on Thursday afternoon, February 5, 2009 in Union Hospital at Dover following an extended period of declining health.Born September 2, 1934 at Wainwright, O., she was the daughter of the late Louis F. and Rebecca Carlisle Clerici.Margaret graduated from Tuscarawas-Warwick High School in 1952, where she was the president of her class. On April 20, 1955, Peggy married her husband of 53 years, Richard R. Simmons in Richmond, Indiana.Peggy worked at the A & P at New Philadelphia, Beabers IGA Foodliner and most recently for Alsco in Sugarcreek.Peggy and Richard raised their dear son, Richard R. “Rick” Simmons, Jr. who passed away on March 14, 1972. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her godson, Brian Boggs and his brother Cory Boggs, with whom she was very close and their mother, Vicki Fortuna; two sisters, Nancy Mikoloski of Placentia, California and Louise Harris of New Philadelphia; one sister-in-law, Mary Catherine (Bob) Swenk of Tuscarawas; nieces and nephews, Alan (Georgie) Johns of New Philadelphia, Paula (Michael) Hodson of Strongsville, Ohio, Abby (Les) Koyanagi of Placentia, California, Carolyn (Michael) Rede of Temecula, California, Susan (Kevin) Brown of Peyton, Colorado, and David Harris of San Clemente, California.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Sunday, February 8, 2009 from 2 to 5 p.m. A service celebrating Peggy’s life will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, February 9 beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Dale Fincher officiating. Burial alongside her son will immediately follow the service in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. A reception will follow the committal service in the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home.In memory of Peggy, her family requests memorial contributions be directed to the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound, 441 University Dr. NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
