Margaret Carter, 82, New Philadelphia, died Saturday morning, January 24, 2004, at Union Hospital in Dover.Born in Beach Bottom, WVA, on November 12, 1921, Margaret was the daughter of the late Mary and William Vanno.After her high school graduation, she went abroad to serve as a civil service secretary in Japan. Later, she worked at Lauren Manufacturing for twenty-five years, before retiring in l993.She was married for over 49 years to the late James T. Carter who died March 7, l999.Margaret loved nature and was an avid supporter of both the Tuscarawas County Humane Society and the American Cancer Society.She is survived by her sons, John Carter and Jimmy Carter, both of New Philadelphia, three grandchildren, Jennifer (Tony) Jeffries, of Washington, DC, John T. Carter and Jessica L. Carter, both of New Philadelphia.; and two sisters.In addition to her parents and husband, a daughter, Elizabeth Carter Ulm, and a brother preceded Margaret in death.A memorial service to honor Margaret’s life will be conducted by the Rev. Hugh B. Berry on Wednesday, January 28, at 7 pm in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel.Friends may call on the family in the chapel beginning at 5 pm on Wednesday evening. Local cremation will be under the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory.The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Margaret’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 201-A West Ohio Avenue, Dover, OH 44622, or the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, P.O. Box 92, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
