Margaret Carmella “Peggy” Streb, 82, of Hennis Care Center at Dover died Wednesday, September 30, 2015 following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Ralph and Carmella Leone Brogne, Peggy was born at New Philadelphia on December 2, 1932.
Following her graduation from New Philadelphia High School, Peggy graduated from St. Luke’s School of nursing at Cleveland.
Spending much of her life as an RN, Peggy worked for various private practices, and served as the Director of Nursing for a number of local nursing homes. She was also employed by Union Hospital, the former Massillon City Hospital, Hospice of Tuscarawas County and served as a Public Health Nurse for Tuscarawas County. She shared her knowledge of nursing with others having taught at Buckeye Career Center and Cuyahoga Falls High School. Peggy also worked as a trade show coordinator for Quilting Creations of Zoar.
Peggy was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia where she served as the first female lector, coached Sacred Heart girls’ basketball, was Past President of the Sacred Heart PTO and served as a Girl Scout leader. An avid and self-taught musician, Peggy enjoyed playing various instruments and singing in the City of Flags Women’s Barbershop Chorus. She was instrumental in the formation of the Tuscarawas Valley Women’s Chorus and loved sharing her vocal talents with church choirs throughout the community. Peggy also served as the Past President of the Tuscarawas County Democratic Women’s Club. She was a lifelong Quaker fan and supporter who loved life and lived by the mantra: “Life is to be enjoyed not endured.”
Her uncanny intuition and love for her family will be deeply missed by her daughters, Pam (Kent) Swarny of Bolivar, and Amy (Kevin) Ayers; her son, Tim (Tami) Streb all of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Allison (Zachary) Hostetler, Noah Swarny, Abby Ayers, Drew Ayers, Kyle (Amber) Streb, Trevor Streb and Alex Streb; and two great-grandchildren, Kenlee Streb and Layne Streb.
Completing the family are her sisters, Joan (Sam) Mascotti of New Philadelphia, Bonnie (Roger) Bassetti of Arizona, Patsy (Roger) Joseph of Indiana, and Debbie (Mark) Redmond of North Carolina as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by infant twin grandsons, Jonathan and Christian Swarny and her best friend, Lucille “Fritzy” Ayers.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be led by Fr. Jeff Coning on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory where the family will greet guests one hour prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
