Mack Webb

Mack Webb, age 97, of New Philadelphia died Thursday, February 20, 2014, in Schoenbrunn Health Care Center.

A son of the late Willie and Cora (Short) Webb, Mack was born at Spencer, West Virginia on June 6, 1916.

During World War II, Mack was a member of the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army; having been stationed in Germany, Holland, France and Austria. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and was proud of his qualification as a sharpshooter on the M1 Rifle. He was a life member of the Carl C. Stoller Post #1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW.

In 1946, Mack began working for the gasoline service station industry having been employed by Pure Oil – Union 76 Oil Company until his retirement in 1972. Throughout his lifetime, Mack had a deep love for horses and enjoyed raising, training, and selling them. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mack is survived by a son, Ronnie (Roxanne) Webb of New Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Isac Webb and Dawn Webb both of New Philadelphia and eight great- grandchildren, Taylor, Kylee, McKenzie and Cadance, Landon and Parker Webb, Draven Secrest and Brooklyn Adams.

In addition to his parents, Mack was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Erma, who died on November 1, 2007; two brothers, Dale and Ferrell and three sisters, Ori, Opal, and Lilly.

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Chaplain James Scalf will lead a service celebrating Mack’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Burial, with military honors rendered by comrades of the New Philadelphia VFW will follow in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
