Mabel R. Devault, age 75, of Dover, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 17, 2013, in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover.
Born in her family home at Dover July 27, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Nellie Seymore Swonger.
She attended school at Tuscarawas Valley and on March 24, 1959, she married Martin Devault, who passed away February 20, 1985.
Mabel will be remembered for the love she shared for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was a familiar face at Dover Football games, from the time her son played on the team, and her daughter played in the band through the decades when her granddaughters were members of the Marching Tornadoes. Mabel contributed to the spirit with her own cowbell that she rang over the years at Dover Victories.
A hard worker her entire life, Mabel’s first job was in the former Chuck’s Chicken in Columbia before going to work in the kitchen at the former Espenschied’s Restaurant where she spent sixteen years. She retired from Park Village Health Care Center following more than 21 years of service.
She was a member of the Dover Baptist Temple.
Survivors include her son, Mike (wife, Danielle) Devault of Uhrichsville, and daughter Marty Devault and her companion Jim Shoup of Dover.
She’ll be sadly missed by her granddaughters; Timberly Hardesty of Columbus, Mia Devault and partner April Mehok of New Philadelpiha, Marissa (husband, Ken) May of Dover, and Louella Shoup of Dover.
Three great-grandchildren, Nellie Mae Devault, Natalie Elizabeth Shoup and Zane May also survive.
Mabel’s siblings Charles (wife, Vickie) Swonger of Wooster, Audrey (husband, Roy) Baker of Dover, and Joe (wife, Bonnie) Swonger of Dover, and many nieces and nephews, complete the family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mabel is preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha Kadri, a son-in-law, James Kadri, and brothers Milton and Clarence Swonger, Jr.
Friends are invited to call Tuesday, August 20, from 10-11 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Chris Rhodes will lead Mabel’s funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park.
Following the committal service, family and friends are invited to a reception in the church fellowship hall of Dover Baptist Temple.
