Mabel Josephine “Posey” McCullough, age 87, of Jefferson Township, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Solvang, California, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, December 28, 2011, in Concordia Lutheran Ministries Home of Jefferson Township, PA. Born at Julesburg, Colorado, August 9, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Christian L. and Eleanor Labore Nelson. A graduate of Santa Ines High School, she went on to attend the University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of Maryland School of Nursing. A Registered Nurse for most of her life, she worked as a geriatric nurse in the Lutheran Home of Solvang, CA, until the age of 77. Best known as “Posey” to her family and close friends, she was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cabot, PA & Santa Ines Mission Catholic Church of Solvang, CA. Her memberships also include the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Department of California, and the Mission Santa Ines, also of California. In 1946 she wed James L. “Jim” McCullough, who passed away February 8, 1978. Together Posey and Jim reared a family that includes two sons and a daughter, James L. (wife, Karen) McCullough II, of Madison, Alabama, Joseph T. (wife, Marie) McCullough of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, and Jeanne McCullough of Falls Church, Virginia. She’ll be sadly missed by her four grandchildren, Megan (husband, John) McNerney of Atlanta, Georgia, Joseph T. (wife, Anna) McCullough II, Kelly (wife, Rayanne) McCullough, both of Coraopolis, PA, and Therese (husband, Patrick) Linnon of Hermitage, Pennsylvania and nine great-grandchildren. A sister, Anne Capes of Anderson, California, and two sisters-in-law: Edith ” Cal ” McCullough of Dover and Mary T. “TT” McCullough Wilhelm of New Philadelphia also survive. Many nieces, nephews and cousins complete the family. In addition to her parents and husband, Posey is preceded in death by her sister Esther Strom. Friends are invited to call Monday morning, January 2, from 9 â?? 9:45 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where prayers and a procession to Sacred Heart Church will commence at 9:45. Her two nephews, Father Joseph A. Mindling, OFM, Cap. and Father John Daniel Mindling, OFM, Cap. will concelebrate Mass of Christian Burial with Father Jeff Coning Monday morning at 10 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Inurnment will follow with her husband in Sacred Heart Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia . Family and friends will gather for a reception in the Geib Family Center , adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home at the conclusion of the committal service. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website.
