Mabel Irene Avon, 83, of Dover, died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 in Union Hospital at Dover. She was the daughter of the late Edgar and Lucille (Miller) Kinsey. Mabel graduated as the Salutatorian of the 1949 graduating class of Gnadenhutten High School.
For more than 17 years, she was employed as the Employment Service Supervisor for the Bureau of Employment Services at New Philadelphia. She also worked for a short time as a realtor and as a desk clerk at the Tuscarawas County YMCA. Mabel was a member of the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia.
She enjoyed caring for plants and flowers as well as tending to her yard. Mabel also enjoyed shopping and visiting restaurants in the “Amish Country”. She was an avid pianist and during her teenage years she served as the Sunday School pianist at Fry’s Valley Moravian Church. Mabel also enjoyed walking at New Towne Mall for more than 20 years with her late husband.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura (Joe Tedesco) Avon of New Philadelphia; a grandson, Keith (Kim) Avon of Dover; 8 great-grandchildren, Danielle, Dylan, Darren, Diedra and Chantz all of Dover, Trent, Lyrissa and Leann of Marion; two great-great grandchildren, Alana and Bentlee of Marion; two step grandsons; several step great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Avon.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert E. Avon who passed away on May 10, 2014; a son, Gary L. Avon; two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 27, 2014 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
