Mary Jane Sandy, 90, a lifelong resident of Dover and New Philadelphia, passed away Christmas Eve, December 24, 2014, in Aurora Manor, following a long illness.
Born in Dover on February 19, 1924, she was the daughter of Lena Knisley. After completing her formal education at New Philadelphia High School, she married her lifelong companion and friend, Al J. “Red” Sandy on June 12, 1947.
Jane worked part time at Bond’s Shoe Store and Lanza Jewelry Store. Her faith was nurtured at St. Joseph Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Church. Most importantly, she was a devoted and loving mother and wife.
She will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Karen (fiancée, Ron Krohn) McKittrick of Stow, Ohio and C. Joyce (Jihad) Beaino of Milltown, New Jersey; and her brothers-in-law, Vincent (Jackie) Sandy and Joseph Lanza, both of Dover.
Four grandchildren, Jason (wife, Wilhelmina) McKittrick, Staci (husband, John) Haag, Samantha Beaino and Maurice Beaino; three great-grandchildren, Xavior and Cloe McKittrick and Owen Haag as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Al “Red” Sandy on March 5, 2013; and her great-grandson, Ian McKittrick.
The family will receive guests Monday from 8:30 to 10 am in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Father Jimmy Hatfield will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover. Entombment will follow in the Dover Burial Park. Following services, all are invited to return to the Hospitality Room of the Geib Funeral Center where a meal and fellowship will be shared.
Memorial contributions in Jane’s memory may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
