M. Isabel Denzer, age 99, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, on Saturday, November 8, 2014.
Born on May 17, 1915, at Gnadenhutten, Isabel was a daughter of the late Oliver C. and Myrtle J. (Parish) Lichty.
Isabel was a 1933 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and on October 15, 1933, in Schoenbrunn Village Park married Herbert A. Denzer. Together the couple shared in 67 years of marriage prior to his passing on August 16, 2001.
From 1945-1964, Isabel assisted her husband in his business as the bookkeeper of his automotive repair shop and in 1964 she became the co-owner and bookkeeper of the Arrowhead Senior Moblie Home Park; a business which she continued to operate today.
Isabel was a 50 plus year member of the Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church, where for many years was active in the Women’s Fellowship group. Her other memberships included the Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 222, and the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.
She was proud to have been the first infant baptized at the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church, been given to opportunity to take her first airplane ride at the age of 10 at the former Harry Brown Farm, be present when the Native American graves were archeologically dug at God’s Acre and recalled with great detail taking the street car to Junior High School.
She is survived by two nephews, Robert C. (Rosemary) Lichty of Canton, Patrick M. Lichty of Wisconsin, her great-nieces and nephews, Chris (Krista) Lichty of New Philadelphia, Curtiss Lichty of Canton; and great-great-nieces, Briana and Aubrie and Aria Lichty, whom were the light of her life.
In addition to her parents and husband, Isabel was preceded in death by a brother, Harold C. Lichty.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Isabelle’s life will be led by Reverend Tracy Pryor on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church at New Philadelphia. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following services, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship in the church’s social hall.
Having been hearing impaired most of her life, it was Isabel’s request that memorial contributions in her name be given to Sports for Sound, C/O Chase Ross, 8011 Roswell Road, Sherrodsville, Ohio 44675, an organization that assists the hearing impaired in Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties.
