Lynn Alan Bente

Lynn Alan Bente, 52, of Dover, died Sunday morning at the New England Medical Center in Boston, Ma, from complications of a bone marrow transplant after successfully battling cancer. Born July 8, 1950 in Dover, he was a son of the late Francis E. “Buck” Bente and Madge A. Bucher Bente.Lynn graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1968, but remained a student his entire life. In 1977, Lynn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education and in 1980, received a Bachelor of Arts, both at Kent State University. In 1982, he earned his Masters of Business Administration from Ashland University. An avid reader, Lynn studied chemistry, especially as it related to plastics, and colorants. Lynn combined his love of chemistry with his love for his family, and after successfully beating cancer in 1997, had the courage to start what today is a thriving family business, Buckeye Color and Chemical, which his wife and sons continue to operate.Lynn was not only a student of chemistry, plastics and colorants; he also was a steward for the industry. He was a 22-year member of the American Chemical Society, was a member of the Society of Dyers & Colourants, Society of Plastics Engineers, and served on the Color Index Editorial Board.Despite the demands of his business, Lynn devoted himself to his community of faith at the First Moravian Church of Dover, where he had served as an Elder. Together with his wife of thirty-one years, the former, Francie Gartrell, he raised two sons; Joel (fiancé Vera Gomes) of Berlin, Germany, and Josh (friend Christy Rook) of Dover. He is also survived by brothers Larry (Mary Lou) Bente and Randy Bente, and an uncle; Ben (Dodie) Bucher, and a cousin Ron Bucher, all of New PhiladelphiaÂ? and Taco, of the home. Funeral Services officiated by Pastor Allen L. Bergman will be Friday, June 13, at 11 AM in the First Moravian Church of Dover. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. Following the committal service, a meal and reception will be held in the church social hall. Friends may call Thursday, June 12, from 2-4 & 7-9 at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia.
