Luella Tempest Frownfelter

Luella Tempest Frownfelter, age 93, of Park Village Assisted Living at Dover, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, November 23, 2009, in Union Hospital. Born at Crooksville, Ohio, June 28, 1916, she was a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Sickels Byers. Best known as Lue to her family and friends, she worked as a waitress in the former Reeves Hotel and Aunt Lou’s Restaurant while still student at New Philadelphia High School. Lue graduated in 1934, and began work at the former Belmont Stamping and Enameling Works. On August 3, 1940, Lue married the late Harry M. Frownfelter in Dubuque, Iowa. Together they would open a neighborhood grocery store in New Philadelphia which evolved into Frownfelters IGA Foodliner on East High Avenue.Because her true calling was nursing, Lue returned to school at the age of 51 to study to become a nurse. She enrolled in nursing courses at Heidelberg and Walsh Colleges. Once licensed, she began a sixteen year career with Union Hospital. Once retired from her service at the hospital, Lue was known to volunteer her time at the Tuscarawas County Health Department. Lue is a past president of the Parent Teacher Association at East Avenue School at New Philadelphia. She also lead a local Girl Scout troop. Her memberships were numerous and included the Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, the New Philadelphia Lady Elks, the Union Hospital Retirees, and the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia. She leaves behind a family that includes three daughters; Jacquelyn Thompson, Jill (husband Bill) Seibold and Joy (husband Dennis) Fazenbaker, all of New Philadelphia. Lue will be missed by her seven grandchildren; Kathryn Thompson of Dover, Dr. Megan (husband Richard) Williams of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Maren Seibold and husband Mark Bentley of Seattle, Washington, Mallory Seibold of Columbus, Justin, Corey and Carly Fazenbaker, all of New Philadelphia.A sister, Betty Weber and two brothers, Bill and Lee Byers complete the family. In addition to her parents, Lue is preceded in death by husband Harry, following fifty-four years of marriage on September 10, 1994. A son-in-law; Richard Thompson, and brothers, Carlos and Lewis Byers are also deceased. Chaplain Chad Durfee will lead a graveside service Friday morning at 11:30 in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. There are no calling hours.
