Lucy E. Rice, 95, a life long resident of Baltic and a resident of Baltic Country Manor since Jun of 1995, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in Baltic Country Manor following a brief illness.Born February 20, 1908 in Crawford Township, Coshocton County, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Minnie Stroup Everhart.She was formerly a telephone operator at Baltic, a cook and pie baker at the Swiss Hat Restaurant at Sugarcreek and she baked many wedding cakes for family and friends. Lucy was Baltic’s oldest resident. She was also a charter member of Chili Cross Roads Bible Church and a member of the missionary society of the church.She was preceded in death by her first husband Carl Schlagenhauf in 1937, and her second husband, Byron Rice in 1968.She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Gene (Marjorie) Schlarb of Baltic and Mrs. Myron (Mary) Miller of Sugarcreek; two sons, James (Colleen) Schlagenhauf of Sugarcreek and John (Mardella) Rice of Baltic; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. Three sisters, one brother and two grandsons are deceased.Funeral services will be held Friday, April 4, 2003, at 11:00 AM in the Countryside Chapel at Baltic. Rev’s David Macy, Gary Yackey, and Dick Marshall will officiate and burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery at Baltic. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 PM in Countryside Chapel at Baltic and one hour prior to services on Friday. The family suggests memorials be made to Chili Cross Roads Bible Church.Smith-Geib Funeral Home in Baltic is handling the arrangements.
